Members of the NCMD Committee recently attended a meeting at the British Museum for the launch of the annual report for the Portable Antiquities Scheme, and the Treasure Act annual report from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport.
While the Treasure Act report is for 2024, it contains details of finds made in 2022. This was due to Covid when the treasure process suspended. The figures for 2022 show the first return to normality, with 1,377 finds reported.
Overall, the meeting was well attended, and there were some great finds on display for everyone to view during the break. It also gave the committee chance to meet Dr Nicholas Cullinan OBE, who has been appointed the new Director of the British Museum.
