Members of the NCMD committee were recently invited to take part in the excavation that was taking place near the site of the Anglo-Saxon burial at Sutton Hoo.
The excavation was being carried out by the Time Team in conjunction with the National Trust who own the site. As part of that work, they needed a metal detecting survey to be carried out across a large area near the Sutton Hoo burial site, so Alan, Dave, David and Ralph were invited to carry out that survey, along with a few others.
We were there for the whole week, and what a fantastic experience it was, but it also shows the value of detectorists working together with archaeologists, something which the committee are constantly working to make the norm rather than the exception.
